1. Data Collection

UI Inspector collects the following types of data:

  • User Activity: The extension's core function requires it to handle user activity only when it is active. This includes:
    • Mouse Position & Clicks: To know which element you are hovering over or selecting for editing.
    • Scroll Events: To ensure highlights and selection overlays stay in the correct position as you scroll.
    This data is used exclusively on your local computer, in real-time, to make the extension work. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted.
  • Website Content: To function as a visual CSS editor, the extension must handle website content only when you activate it. This includes:
    • DOM & CSS: Reading the page's structure and computed styles to display them in the side panel and apply your edits.
    • Element Screenshots: Capturing visible tab screenshots locally to enable the PNG export feature. Screenshots are processed entirely on your device.
    This data is only read from the page and displayed back to you. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted.
  • Local Preferences & Presets: Your saved style presets, GitHub repository URLs, and extension options are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage APIs. This data is never transmitted to any server.

Note: We prioritize your privacy and do not collect or store any information beyond what is necessary for the functionalities of our extension. We never resell your personal information to other services or companies.

2. How We Use Data

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • License Validation: We verify your license key with Gumroad's servers to confirm your purchase and ensure proper activation limits.
  • Feature Access: We use your license status to enable or disable premium features within the extension.
  • Style Editing: We read and modify the DOM and CSS of the active page to provide real-time visual editing. All modifications happen locally in your browser.
  • Preset Storage: We store your custom presets locally so you can reuse them across websites.

3. Data Sharing

We share the collected data with:

  • Gumroad: We send license validation requests to Gumroad's servers to verify the purchase status of users. You can review their privacy practices at gumroad.com/privacy.
  • GitHub: If you use the GitHub export feature, your CSS changes are sent to GitHub via their issue creation URL. This is initiated by you and opens in a new tab. We do not send any data to GitHub without your explicit action.

Note: Our data sharing practices are strictly limited to the services listed above. We never share, distribute, or resell your personal information to any other services or companies.

4. Data Storage

UI Inspector stores data as follows:

  • Local Storage: Your license key, premium status, custom presets, GitHub repository URLs, and extension options are stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage APIs.
  • No Server Storage: We do not store any personal information on our servers. All data remains on your device or with Gumroad.

5. Third-Party Services

UI Inspector uses the following third-party services:

  • Gumroad [gumroad.com]: Handles all payment processing and license key generation.
  • GitHub [github.com]: Used optionally by the user to export design changes as GitHub issues.

Note: Our use of your data is strictly confined to the stated purposes above. We never use your personal data for any undisclosed reasons.
